34 anterior cruciate ligament reconstructed patients underwent either 4 weeks of WBV-OF (WBV at optimal frequency) training in addition to a traditional rehabilitation program (TRP), or a traditional rehabilitation program only, starting from the first month after surgery
Patients were assessed for maximal voluntary isometric strength during both knee extension and flexion
Strength symmetry of knee flexor muscles improved in WBV-OF+TRP patients more than in TRP patients at 1 month after treatment (mean 66% (+ 15 standard deviation (SD)) vs 5 8% + 13 SD)
Likewise at the 3-month follow-up (mean 77% (+ 15) vs 64% (+ 15))
Adding 4-weeks of WBV-OF to a traditional rehabilitation program 1 month after surgery was effective in improving muscle strength of the knee flexor muscles
