Gerhardt F, et al. Heart 2017;103:592–598

Cardiovascular Research Center, Heart Center, University of Cologne, Cologne, Germany

22 patients with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), WHO-Functional Class II or III and on stable PH therapy for≥3 months, were randomized to receive WBV (16 sessions of 1-hour duration for 4 weeks) or to a control group.

Results

Results

WBV showed a significant improvement in

  • The 6 Min. Walking Distance measurement (6MWD)

  • WBV was associated with substantial improvements in Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) variables

  • Lung Function: Flow volume loops, Oxygen Consumption during exercise (VO2 max), Anaerobic Threshold, Heart performance during exercise, Blood gas, 12 lead ECG

  • Muscle power

  • Health-related quality of life (HRQoL)

WBV is a training tool with an optimized balance between training stimulus for skeletal muscle and the heart and circulatory system.
